Dr. Martin Fiers received his Ph.D. degree in Integrated Photonics at Ghent University (UGent) in Belgium, 2013. During his Ph.D., Martin has researched novel type of photonic hardware architectures for all-optical computing, inspired by machine learning. Martin also developed the integrated photonics circuit simulator Caphe. After finishing his Ph.D. degree, he has done business development for 1 year to prepare for the startup company Luceda Photonics. Martin co-founded Luceda Photonics in 2014, and has been working with the company since then as the product manager.
While substantial efforts are directed towards advancing hybrid and heterogeneous integration on the technology side (processing, packaging, etc.), it is important to develop a PIC design flow and the logistics to enable this flow. In this presentation we highlight the design challenges and opportunities, and what is needed to scale hybrid and heterogeneous integration to a higher Technology Readiness Level.
